First the bad news; various venerable tourist attractions in the Kathmandu Valley, and as far west as Gorkha, were seriously damaged, these include Kathmandu Durbar, Swayambunath – the Monkey Temple, and Bhaktapur. Patan Durbar was only lightly damaged.
Now the good news; the tourist infrastructure, hotels, bars, shops etc, in the tourist Thamel area of Kathmandu was largely untouched and has been functioning normally for some time, just without many tourists.
Pokhara was untouched by the quake. However despite this tourist numbers are down by 50%. Nepal needs your tourist money and now is an ideal time to go.
