Ghandruk Trek trekking hike hiking nepal

Bit Chilly Today?

This is a beautiful, short, tea-house (ie lodging is provided) trek in the Annapurna region of Nepal through bird-filled oak and rhododendron forests, beautiful villages, patchwork valleys and, of course, with magnificent views. This is ideal for non-trekkers etc, who are really after little more than an extended country hill walk. This trek can be done any time, though I should advise against it during the monsoon, June to late September. Bring the kids.

Day 1Kathmandu to Pokhara (910m)   Your trekking guide will arrive and, after breakfast, we travel from Kathmandu to the vibrant resort area of Lakeside, Pokhara, from where we can observe views to the north across the hills to the white peaks of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, go boating on Fewa Lake or just wander around. (6 to 8 hour drive or 30 minute flight)
Day 2Pokhara to Pothana (1,130m)   We drive to Phedi and trek to Pothana. The trek ascends through forests till you reach the village of Dhampus, a Gurung village with magnificent views of the Annapurna range, Lamjung Himal and Manaslu. We continue trekking through woodland and hike up to Pothana, a small village surrounded by forest with marvellous mountain views. (1 hour drive + 5 hour trek).
Day 3Pothana to Ghandruk (1,950m)   The early part of the trek is a gradual upward hike for almost an hour to Deurali (2,100m) trekking through oak and mixed forests with splendid views of Manaslu, the Annapurna range and Mardi Himal. Leaving Deurali, we begin to hike down to Tolkha (1,840m), a beautiful Magar and Gurung village. We then make a gradual downhill trek through terraces and a few settlements to Landruk, a village inhabited by Gurung with a few Brahmins. Now we hike steeply downward to Modi Khola river and, after crossing an iron bridge, we trek steeply up to Ghandruk, a wonderful Gurung village with traditional houses made of stone slabs. The magnificent views from here include Annapurna South (7,229m), Hiunchuli (6,441m), Annapurna III (7,755m), Glacier Dome (7,200m) and Machapuchare (6,993m). (6 hour trek).
Day 4Ghandruk via Birethanti and Nayapul to Pokhara   Today we hike down through Kimshe to Shaulo Bazaar. From here the trek flattens out until Birethanti. We drive from Nayapul to Pokhara by taxi. (5 hour trek + 1 hour drive).
Day 5Pokhara to Kathmandu   We return to Kathmandu, though alternatively you could take the opportunity to paraglide near Pokhara with or without an instructor. Tandem flights cost from US$ 95 to US$ 130.

We hope you’ve had a great trek, have some fond memories to take home and we look forward to trekking with you again on your return to Nepal.
